A bilingual journey
designed for YOU: International pregnant mama(n)s!

Feel confident, understood, and supported through pregnancy & birth even in a system you didn’t grow up in.

Everything is in French, every form, every appointment, every medical word.
Care providers don’t always understand you… and you don’t always understand them.
Your family is far away, and you feel the weight of doing this without them.
Your partner wants to help, but doesn’t fully get what you need.
You’re unsure of your rights, your options, your choices.
Even booking a midwife or preparing your birth plan feels overwhelming.
It’s a lot. Especially in a system that isn’t your own.
You have someone by your side who truly gets life in France, in both English and French.
You feel seen, safe, and supported at every step.
You understand your body, labour, and pain and know how to work with them, not fear them.
You can express your birth preferences clearly, even in a French hospital.
You walk into birth feeling calm, prepared, and confident.
You enter postpartum with a plan that respects your body, your needs, and your multicultural family.
You’re not just informed you feel emotionally held and guided.
Your pregnancy feels peaceful instead of overwhelming.
This is what your journey can look like with the right support.

And I’ll walk you through every single step - so you can go from “overwhelm” to “confident” without stress, confusion, or wasting your energy Googling everything.

When I got pregnant, I thought it would be simple because I speak French. But I forgot a detail... My husband, him, does not.
And suddenly, I found myself translating everything: appointments, medical terms, decisions, emotions.
I saw how easy it is to feel lost, even when you do speak the language.
A smooth and confident pregnancy here requires more than medical care.
You need clarity
to understand your real options here, to know what you can ask for or refuse,
and to express your choices clearly in both English and French.
You need preparation
not just for the medical side of birth, but for the emotional, physical,
and cultural realities of giving birth in a foreign system.
You need postpartum support
a plan that protects your rest, your mental health, your identity as a new mother, and the unique dynamics of a multicultural family.
You need someone by your side
someone who helps you communicate with care providers, and makes sure you feel heard, respected, and supported.
That’s exactly why I created
"The French Bump".
Let me show you what this support
looks like in practice
and how it gently holds you through every stage.

Hello!
I'm Johanna, your Frenchie Doula
I’m Johanna, a certified French doula, born and raised here, married to a foreign partner (South African) and mother of two. I’ve lived every page of this story: translating medical advice, feeling like a stranger in my own system, supporting my partner when no one else spoke English.
Now, I help international mothers: find clarity, calm, and confidence, on their own terms.
I’ll meet you with softness, structure, and deep respect for your way.

Natasha
Great experience, very easy to talk to. What helped me most was the information and reassurance. I felt heard and understood, very comfortable sharing my emotions, concerns, and doubts, and my choices and space were absolutely respected. The information about the baby was especially useful, and the sessions helped me feel more confident for birth and postpartum. Communication was clear, nothing felt confusing, and I felt supported and confident. You are very easy to talk to, kind, and explain things well. 😊

Pleasant and very informative. The most helpful part was the moral and emotional support you lay on the table. I felt very comfortable sharing my emotions, concerns, and doubts, you make me feel heard all the time, which I value, especially as someone who doesn’t usually open up easily. 🩷
The emotional and physical preparation helped me feel very confident for birth and postpartum. I’m very happy with each session we had. You are a trusted doula, and parents will be in good hands.
