The French Bump is a private 1:1 doula support journey for international mothers in France who want to feel emotionally safe, clearly guided, and truly supported in a maternity system they didn’t grow up in.
Maybe you have a midwife. Maybe your partner helps you translate. Maybe you’ve joined the Facebook groups, saved the checklists, and Googled every unfamiliar word after your appointments.
But still, something feels heavy.
Because the hard part isn’t only that everything is in French.
It’s that every appointment, every form, every medical word, and every decision seems to carry the weight of your baby’s wellbeing.
And you’re trying to decode it all while becoming a mother.

You understand some French, but not enough to feel fully safe during medical conversations.
You leave appointments wondering if you missed something important.
Your family is far away, and you feel the weight of becoming a mother without your usual village.
Your partner may help with translation or admin, but deep down, you don’t want to experience your own pregnancy through someone else’s understanding.
You’re unsure what is normal in France, what your options are, and what you’re allowed to ask for.
You look capable on the outside, but inside, you’re tired of carrying the mental load alone.
It’s not because you’re failing.
It’s because you’re becoming a mother in a system that doesn’t always explain itself clearly in a language and culture that are not fully yours.
This is not just about information.
You can Google a French maternity word.
You can ask a Facebook group what a form means.
You can use translation apps.
But none of that gives you the feeling of being truly held when you are scared, confused, far from your family, or unsure how to advocate for yourself.
The French Bump is not here only to explain the system.
It is here to help you feel safe inside it.
Because AI can give you answers.
But a doula helps you feel calm enough to breathe, choose, ask, process, and trust yourself again.
Imagine opening a letter, receiving a prescription, or leaving an appointment without spiralling for hours afterwards.
Imagine knowing what matters, what comes next, what questions to ask, and what you can stop worrying about.
Imagine having someone beside you who understands the French system, the emotional reality of expatriation, and the woman you are becoming.
You understand the key steps of your maternity journey in France.
You feel prepared before appointments, instead of replaying them afterwards.
You know how to express your needs, preferences, and boundaries clearly.
You feel less dependent on your partner to translate and carry everything.
You prepare for birth with confidence, not fear.
You enter postpartum with a plan that protects your rest, your mental health, your relationship, and your identity.
You feel emotionally held, not just informed.
This is not about creating a perfect pregnancy.
It’s about helping you feel calm, supported, and no longer alone in it.

You don’t need to know everything.
You don’t need to become fluent in French maternity admin.
And you don’t need to carry the emotional weight of this transition alone.
Together, we’ll turn the confusion into a clear path, prepare you for birth and postpartum, and create a space where your questions, fears, choices, and needs are taken seriously.

When I got pregnant in France, I thought it would be simple. I’m French. I know the language. I know the culture.
But my husband doesn’t.
And suddenly, I became the bridge between two worlds: translating appointments, medical terms, decisions, expectations, fears, and emotions.
I saw how easy it is to feel lost, even when one person in the couple speaks French.
And when I started supporting international mothers in France, I realised something important:
A medically followed pregnancy is not always an emotionally supported pregnancy.
That’s exactly why I created
"The French Bump".
The French Bump is built around 4 kinds of support.

Clarity:
Understand what is happening and what comes next.
Because when you understand what’s happening, your nervous system can finally stop scanning for danger.

Emotional Safety:
Feel held through the vulnerable moments.
You don’t need another search result. You need someone who can hear what’s underneath the question.

Birth & Advocacy Preparation:
Prepare to express your needs clearly in a French maternity setting.
You’ll know what matters to you, how to communicate it, and how to stay connected to yourself even inside an unfamiliar medical system.

Postpartum & Identity:
Prepare for the mother you are becoming.
Postpartum is not just feeding, sleep and nappies. It’s identity, loneliness, couple dynamics, cultural expectations, family distance, and learning who you are now.
How the 1:1 journey works
The French Bump is not a fixed course with the same sessions for every family.
It is a private 1:1 support journey shaped around your pregnancy, your questions, your birth preferences, your emotional needs, your partner, and your family situation.
Together, we use the 4 pillars as a guide:
Clarity.
Emotional safety.
Birth and advocacy preparation.
Postpartum and identity.
But the exact rhythm, focus, and content of our sessions are adapted to you.
Because what you need at 12 weeks pregnant may be very different from what you need at 32 weeks.
And what you need before birth may shift again once your baby is here.
What is included in your private support journey
Inside The French Bump, you receive personalised support before, during, and after our sessions, so you are not left alone trying to figure everything out between appointments.

Private 1:1 Doula Sessions
Our sessions are a safe space to prepare, ask, process, understand, and reconnect with yourself.
Depending on where you are in your pregnancy, we may work on:
understanding the French maternity system,
preparing for appointments,
exploring your birth preferences,
communicating your needs in a French medical setting,
supporting your partner’s role,
preparing emotionally for labour,
planning your postpartum,
navigating cultural differences,
processing fears, doubts, or previous experiences,
and helping you feel more grounded in the mother you are becoming.
You do not need to arrive with everything figured out.
We start from where you are.

Continuous Support Between Sessions
Because real life happens between appointments.
When you leave a medical appointment unsure of what was said, receive a confusing document, wonder if you missed something important, or simply need to be reminded that you are not failing, you can reach out.
You are not left alone between our sessions trying to hold everything by yourself.
Includes:
WhatsApp voice and text support
Monday to Friday
Response within 24h
This does not replace your medical team.
It helps you feel less alone while you move through the system.

This private session helps you prepare for real conversations in the delivery room.
You will learn key birth vocabulary, practise useful phrases, and roleplay common hospital situations, so you feel more able to understand, ask, respond, and express your needs when it matters.
This is not about becoming fluent.
It is about feeling less frozen, less dependent, and more able to use your voice during birth.

VIP WhatsApp Group Access
Connect and share with other mums-to-be like you.
As part of The French Bump, you’ll get access to a private WhatsApp group where you can ask questions, share experiences, feel less alone, and connect with other international mothers navigating pregnancy and motherhood in France.
Because sometimes, what you need most is to hear:
“Oh, I’m not the only one.”

Hello!
I'm Johanna, your Frenchie Doula
Hello, I’m Johanna.
I’m a certified French doula, born and raised in France, married to a South African partner, and mother of two (soon 3).
I know the French maternity system from the inside.
But I also know what it feels like to stand between two cultures, translating not only words, but emotions, decisions, expectations, and fears.
When I became a mother in France with an international partner, I saw how easily pregnancy can become more complicated when one person does not fully understand the language, the system, or the cultural codes.
And when I started supporting international mothers, I realised something important:
A medically followed pregnancy is not always an emotionally supported pregnancy.
That is why I created The French Bump.
I bring together softness, structure, cultural understanding, and emotional support, so you can feel guided without feeling judged, informed without feeling overwhelmed, and supported without losing your own voice.
TESTIMONIALS
What mothers say about feeling supported
Natasha
Great experience, very easy to talk to. What helped me most was the information and reassurance. I felt heard and understood, very comfortable sharing my emotions, concerns, and doubts, and my choices and space were absolutely respected. The information about the baby was especially useful, and the sessions helped me feel more confident for birth and postpartum. Communication was clear, nothing felt confusing, and I felt supported and confident. You are very easy to talk to, kind, and explain things well. 😊

Pleasant and very informative. The most helpful part was the moral and emotional support you lay on the table. I felt very comfortable sharing my emotions, concerns, and doubts, you make me feel heard all the time, which I value, especially as someone who doesn’t usually open up easily. 🩷
The emotional and physical preparation helped me feel very confident for birth and postpartum. I’m very happy with each session we had. You are a trusted doula, and parents will be in good hands.
This journey is for you if you are:
You are pregnant and living in France
You are between 0 month and 8 months pregnant
(this program is not designed for the very last weeks of pregnancy)
You are already followed, or willing to be followed, by a midwife or gynaecologist in parallel.
You want support alongside your medical care, not instead of it.
You want to understand the French maternity system without spending hours spiralling online.
You want to prepare for birth in a way that feels informed, calm, and connected to your needs.
You want a realistic postpartum plan, especially if your family is far away.
You are tired of pretending you understood everything when you didn’t.
You want to feel less alone in this transition.
You want to be supported as a whole person, not just as a pregnant body.
You want to feel calmer, more confident, and supported throughout your pregnancy
This may not be the right fit if…:
You are looking for medical advice or someone to replace your midwife, doctor, or maternity team.
You only want downloadable PDFs without personal support.
You want someone to make every decision for you, instead of helping you feel informed and confident in your own choices.
You are not interested in exploring your emotional needs, boundaries, support system, or postpartum reality.
You are looking for a last-minute birth preparation course in the final days before birth.
